The Montreal Economic Institute rewards economic education in the media
Montreal, December 11, 2012 — The Montreal Economic Institute (MEI) has awarded its two annual economic education prizes, each including a $3,000 grant, to Tasha Kheiriddin, commentator at the National Post and on CTV, and to Éric Duhaime, who appeared in several venues like the Journal de Québec, Isabelle le matin, Dumont and Radio X.
Mr. Duhaime was awarded the prize for his original way of presenting the concept of wealth creation. Especially with his appearance on V in January 2012, he helped put in perspective the incomes of the more fortunate in our society and explain their valuable contribution. The MEI congratulates Éric Duhaime, who has for several years helped untangle the stories of the day in order to better understand the basic issues underlying them.
Ms. Kheiriddin was awarded the prize for her column entitled “The pension debate we need to have,” published in the National Post. In that piece, she points out that in addition to political considerations and good intentions, it is crucial to take into account behaviours related to retirement in order to adjust public policies accordingly. The MEI is happy to highlight the work of Tasha Kheiriddin whose spirit of analysis allows Canadians to be better informed on the subject of governmental decisions affecting the economy.
Each year since 2006, the Montreal Economic Institute has rewarded two journalists, columnists or television hosts (one anglophone and one francophone) who, through their work, demonstrate an understanding of the economic consequences of government policies. The MEI values the crucial role played by the media in the transmission of knowledge and ideas.
